Being his first time at the WAFBEC, Dr. Mensah thanked Pastor Poju Oyemade for inviting him. He told the congregation that tonight’s session will focus on the theme of the event – BE FRUITFUL
Discussion the creation story, he explained how God choose to be known as a ‘Worker’ and a ‘Creator’, saying, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”.
He was able to establish that God doesn’t dwell in the physical heaven as He already existed before He created the heaven and the earth. According to him, “God dwells in the spiritual heaven”.
Still on the creation story, from Gen. 1:26, he was able to show how God created a single person and made him to rule over so many more of his creations.
The story in Genesis explains how God produced something new from an already existing material. That is, he (God) made man from the dust.
He shared a very striking truth of how God, out of all the commands He could have given to the man He just created, instead He said, BE FRUITFUL! (Gen. 1:28).
God could have said any other thing, like, ‘Be holy’, ‘worship me’, etc. This is just to show that the most important thing on God’s mind for creation was to be fruitful.
Reading from Gen 1:27-28, he said that Being fruitfulness is the most important thing to God.
Another striking statement Dr. Otabil made was that Jesus also confirmed the importance of fruitfulness when, in the new testament, He cursed fruitless tree.
He explained further that the phrase ‘Be Fruitful’ is a command and it means ‘Be Productive’.
There are different ways to be productive – the fruit of the womb, the fruit of the thought, fruit of the mouth, fruit of the hand, and the fruit of the spirit.
“When God says ‘Be’, it means He has equipped that thing with everything to ‘be’”, said Dr. Otabil.
He then added that God probably told Adam, “When challenges come, to figure it out”.
According to him, “From Gen. 1:11, for there to be a bringing forth, there must be a pregnancy; and for there to be pregnancy, there must be a seed planted.
“God’s word is the seed. The word goes into the earth and begins to reconfigure the earth”, said Dr. Otabil.
Speaking about fruitfulness, he said, “God shows us that to be fruitful, something that is unseen would be mixed with something seen. That is, God puts ideas into man from which man can be productive”.
He went ahead to say that every human was created with the capacity to produce. He made them with at least a seed.
He share a story of a young boy born with a damaged brain. According to him, this young boy has a brother whose music teacher comes around to teach him the piano. One day, after the music teacher completed the lesson with his brother, the young boy made his way to the piano.
He began to strike the note, first without a distinct pattern, then after a while, the sound began to be distinct. The parents were shocked and so was the music teacher. The boy began to play different kinds of tunes with lovely sounds.
“Here was someone the world considered unfruitful’, said Dr. Mensah.
He further explained that there is nothing God creates that doesn’t have a seed. God’s seed in us is designed to make us fruitful.
He then contrasted between the people who eat food and those who plant seeds. “It is better to become the latter”, he encouraged the congregation.
He admonished the crowd to produce fruit in relation to the seed God has given to them. According to him, those who had done great things on earth were either seed discoverers, seed users or seed hunters.
“God wants us to be fruitful physically and spiritually”, said Dr. Mensah. “We must have heaven on earth and heaven on heaven”, he added.
He closed by saying that the seed of God in man is indestructible. That is, it cannot be corrupted.
He said that, the giver of the seed is also the one who causes it to grow. “God gives the multiplication of the fruits, even after man has planted and watered”.
He prayed for the congregation for creative ideas, incentive thoughts, skillful applications. He also prayed that the angels of God will provide for the people everything needed in other to be fruitful.
