The first morning session was graced by Dr. Mensah Otabil. His topic centred around the question, ‘Where Are You?’
According to him, “It is a very simple question that is often asked. Interestingly, it’s the first question in the Bible God asked Adam. Gen 3:8 – 9.
“Usually when God asks a question, he’s not looking for knowledge. However, he wants you to relate where you are to something that is fixed. So today, I will be using fixed ‘instruments’ to help you locate where you are”, said Dr. Mensah.
Two instruments he talked about were the Stage of life and Seasons (or Cycles) of Life – Gen 8:21 – 22
According to him, “How you respond to the season is very important. You can’t behave like you’re in a harvest when you’re really in seed time, and vice versa. “People may be in the same space as you but be in a different season as you”, he said while emphasizing the need to acquaint one’s self the planting season.
He gave several examples to this. One of them was Gehazi who went after Naman to collect the gifts in the stead of his master, Elisha.
“There’s nothing more dangerous than receiving a blessing in the wrong season,” he added.
Then he shared on the importance of understanding seasonal changes.Seasons are not permanent, but cyclical. When God changes a season, you must change your action, he added.
He told the story of Hagar in Gen 16:1 – end, and Jacob Gen 28:10 – 15.
Concerning Hagar’s story, he advised that you don’t exit a place because someone mistreated you. If you do, you might miss God.
For Jacob who was given a bad deal several times by Laban, he encouraged the congregation, saying, “You will come into a new season, after you’ve been cheated and face dark moments. He prophesied that a change is coming, and that the people will receive a new season.
In rounding off, he prayed and prophesied over the congregation. “In 2019 we release fruitfulness to every area of your life. For every seed you have sown and investment you have made, they bear fruits now. You receive your harvest. You abound and your cup overflow.”
