The Communion of The Holy Spirit – Pst Kingsley Okonkwo Day 2 Afternoon Session 1

Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo commenced the first, afternoon session at Day 2 WAFBEC 2022 stating the importance of final words quoting II Cor13:11-14 laying emphasis on verse 14. He mentioned that every time he stumbles on that verse of scripture it reminds him of the summary of Paul’s sermon and the prominence of the trinity. Most times when we hear about grace it’s about the grace of Jesus. The grace we enjoy is that of Jesus Christ. When we understand grace we know we can’t hold anyone ransom for their wrongdoings because without grace we are not qualified either.

The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ gives us relevance, health, wealth, confidence in the world. Christ took our place and we took his place. It’s this grace that gives us the enablement to rub shoulders with Christ because we are joint-heirs with Christ Romans 8:17. It’s possible to have powerful people and not be loved by them, but we can’t be loved by someone and he won’t exercise his power on our behalf to show us how much we are loved.

When we understand this love of God we will never cajole him or force our opinions on him rather we will concentrate on the things he wants for us. Buttressing the love of God to us, he quoted John 3:16 which encapsulates the love of God towards us. If things are going wrong in our lives there is the certainty that God is on our side. God will rather we doubt his power than we doubt his love. God describes himself with love more than other qualities. There is nothing we need to ask God for that he hasn’t already figured out.

Many Christians talk to God like he will do things rather than he has done them already. When approaching God we must understand that all things are done and entreat the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to see things freely provided to us by God. (1 Cor 2:9-13) Our greatest desire this year must be communion with the Holy Spirit who shows us all things. He described the Holy Spirit as the protocol officer and chief operations officer (COO). A protocol officer keeps us from struggling in a new environment and that is what the Holy Spirit is to us.

Everything in the bible is logos but when the veil is removed it becomes rhema. There is nothing we can’t find in the scripture once the veil is removed. That is why it’s called the communion of the Spirit. We must do this through constant studying of the word. Matt 12:31. It’s the reason we are enjoined not to sin against him, grief him or quench him.

When approaching God we must understand that all things are done and entreat the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to see things freely provided to us by God.

Do you want to live above sin? The key is to commune with the Holy Spirit. You want to live above struggle, the answer is communion. It’s why he is called the seal of our salvation. You can have all things, perform all activities in church and not have the communion of the Holy Spirit.

The reason many aren’t enjoying their Christianity, he said, is because they aren’t communing with the Holy Spirit. We must cultivate our relationship with the Holy Spirit. A Christian life should be struggle free. The only time as Christians we should shout is to things not when talking to God.

Pastor Kinglsey closed his sermon by highlighting seven ways to commune with the Holy Spirit:

  1. Develop the consciousness of the Holy Spirit. He is with us always. He’s right with us where we are. We must develop the consciousness that we are never alone.
  2. Talk to him always. Talk to him about everything. Practise talking to the Holy Spirit even before reading your bible.
  3. Be quiet and listen to him. There are many moves you want to make, he has an opinion, listen to him.
  4. Yield to him. When he nudges your heart to forgive someone, do it. He’d tell you random things, do it. Satan will never tell you to give, forgive, etc.
  5. Don’t grief the Holy Spirit. Don’t continuously disobey the things he tells you. Don’t hold grudges.
  6. Create the atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to move. Fastings helps us to be sensitive to him. Approach the Holy Spirit with the confidence that he will speak.
  7. Pray in the Holy Ghost.

When we develop the communion with the Holy Ghost, things will be easy for us, he said as he rounded off.
