Pastor Dele Osunmakinde Speaks On The Subject Of Sonship – Day 3 Morning Session 1

Pastor Dele Osunmakinde

Dr Osunmakinde started his message from the account of the temptation of Jesus as captured in Luke Chapter 4. Reading from chapter 1, scripture says that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. “What kind of leading is this?”, he asked. The devil tempted Jesus after a period of 40 days of fasting and prayer, and the first temptation was that he should turn stone to bread. He pointed out that the hunger Jesus experienced after the fast was beyond just that of physical food, but a hunger for the supernatural; and that was why the devil challenged him to do something supernatural.

He noted that this point is also the most pivotal in the life of the believer – this hunger for the supernatural, where the temptation of the enemy is intensive. When you have built the spiritual capital to execute the supernatural on the earth, the enemy will question your sonship just as he did to Jesus in the first temptation.

Dwelling on the matter of sonship, he asked three key questions?

  1. What is it about Sonship?
  2. Has Jesus always been the Son of God?
  3. Are there other sons of God?

He took time to show that there are other categories of sons of God identified in the scriptures. He quoted Gen 6:4, Job 38:7, Isa 14:12 and Job 2:1-3 and established that fallen angels were also referred to as sons of God, albeit rebellious sons. Satan, originally called Lucifer, was also one of the sons of God until he rebelled. Eph 2:2, Eph 5:6, Col 3:6

He noted that Satan is most interested in stopping believers from becoming sons because when a believer becomes a begotten son, the nations of the earth becomes his inheritance and he dislodges the government of Satan previously at work. Psa 2:7-8, Isa 9:6-7. Satan understands that a begotten son is one who has yielded his will to the father, he, therefore, operates on the frequency of disobedience to ensure that the governing structure of God planned for his begotten sons are not established. However, God is committed to this project of establishing true sons and so the zeal of God performs the fulfilment of his word concerning the establishment of sons.

In rounding off, he drew a few lessons from how Jesus responded to the temptation. Jesus never responded as a superman, but rather as a man. Jesus didn’t try to validate his sonship by turning the stones to bread as the devil suggested. Jesus knew that would be contrary to scriptures, so he didn’t fall for that trap. He admonished everyone to never try to validate the word of God by performance or physical evidence.
