Day 4 Evening Apostle Arome Osayi – Beware of Balaam

He started his session with a message from God that we should beware of Balaam.

He described Balaam as a metaphor to point God’s people to a strategy of the world to turn us against God. He described the prophet Balaam as a soothsayer. A soothsayer can reveal things but that doesn’t make him a prophet. A prophet is someone with the capacity to reveal the things of God.

He emphasized that there is a need to be able to recognize the difference between a prophet and a soothsayer. He then read from Act 16:16

There is a difference between truth and true and the highest discernment is knowing this difference. It took a few days before the power that drives discernment came upon Paul and he recognized the servant girl was a soothsayer.

He taught the differences between prophecy and soothsayer. The prophet speaks from the personality of the person called the Truth. A soothsayer will speak true, things that are verifiable in the natural. Truth comes from the nature of God.

The prophet can operate in hiding and may never be known, whereas the soothsayer has to be in the limelight as this is the only way he can get recognition. The soothsayer needs to be seen to have spiritual approval. We need to go beyond the truth and enter into the Truth, he urged.

The security of the prophet is the Holy Spirit. The security of the soothsayer is a cartel. The cartel is a league of spiritual leaders who are enshrined in immorality.

From Numbers 31:16 and Jude 1:11, he showed that there’s a way of Balaam which is propelled by gain. The objective of the prophet is the service of God while for the soothsayer it is for gain.

He listed and expounded on the various ways to test the authenticity of a prophet or prophecy. These include:

  1. The Bible Test. The Bible is used to test the prophecy. The Bible is the final authority and while the prophecy has to be checked with the Bible, the Bible cannot be authenticated by any prophecy.
  2. The Fruit test. The fruit test checks the results produced by the  lifestyle of the people that sit under the prophet
  3. The Spirit test. The spirit test is the inner peace test where the Holy Spirit guides.
  4. The Character test. The character-based test checks a person’s actions and personal habits or traits.
  5. The Clarity test. The clarity test helps to see things from God’s perspective.

The things of God are calibrated by the Spirit of God. When your spirit is entwined with the Spirit of God, you become one with God. It is only by the things of God you can contend with the enemy.

His session ended in a time of prayer for God to sharpen our discernment and bring us to a point where we can wield the scepter of righteousness God has released.
