Day 3 Evening Dr Mensa Otabil – The Works of Man and the Acts of God Part 1

Dr. Mensa introduced his message by stating that he was going to show us what we need to create a balance of our role in what God wants to do. God requires that we do something before he acts.

He examined the concepts of grace and works in reference to the apostle’s Paul and James.

Paul talks primarily about the sacrifices under the law of Moses while James talks about the activity of your spirit when you are born again. Both apostles use the word works in different contexts.

Dr. Mensah stated he was talking not about any of these contexts but by works he was referring to the purposeful action we need to take for the acts of God to be manifested in our life.

He took us to Joshua 10:5 where he described Joshua as a man of action who entered warfare severely disadvantaged but had God’s approval. Joshua continuing despite all odds is what he described as work. You must be ready to pay the sacrifice of doing the extra work when no one can see you.

He said that the success you see in some ministries that seemed like it happened suddenly is a result of years of doing the right things consistently.

He used an analogy of football. The rigors that the well-paid footballers go through before they become successful and people think it is easy. He stated that nothing is easy in this world. It is a long night of frustration, praying, fasting, faithfulness, and consistency, and then suddenly there’s a breakthrough.

What brings God to the battle scene is the work of man.

He also said that God can use nature or anything he wants to aid man. In the case of Joshua, he used hailstones which killed the Amorites but not the Israelites, because God knows how to protect his children in battle. When God acts on our behalf, we may go through the same circumstances but we are protected by God.

The work of man goes on until there is a “suddenly”. Changes come that align with what we had been hoping will happen. There will be a transformation because God shows his work after we have done our work.

He taught that God doesn’t need everyone to get it right, just a few people to be consistent in doing the right works and God will step in on our behalf and bring a transformation to our continent. He stated that we are entering into a phase of emancipation, a new dawn and God is giving us victory.

He ended his session with a call to prayer for Nigeria. For a sudden nigeria, for the fulfillment of the prayers from years past for a transformed Nigeria.
