Mercy Over Merit – Pastor Kingsley Okonwo Day 7 Morning Session 2

Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

There are Christians whose judgemental spirit has restrained from receiving God’s mercy. Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo established this while preaching at WAFBEC today. There is power in narrating stories, he said; even Jesus used a lot of illustration because while you may forget prophecies you won’t forget stories. Stories help readiness of the spirit, it stays longer than revelations. This is buttressed in Matt 13:11-14 MSG.

He started by revisiting what he shared at his first session. He read II Cor13:11-14 and said that the final words in any conversation is very key. We must tap into the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We enjoy his grace because he took our place. The love of God is a dimension of God people must take advantage of. God never describes himself with power but love. Lastly, the communion of the Holy Spirit which is mostly neglected by Christians today is the most important. The Holy Spirit is the only one of the trinity who is here with us and it assures our prosperity when we are in proper tune with him.

He read Rom 14:17 and connected what Paul shared there with his opening scripture of II Cor 13:14:

James 1:5 Wisdom helps us know the correct step to take, and this scripture tells us how to get it but the Holy Spirit is the one to help us get it. The speciality of the Holy Spirit is to help us solve lack. The Holy Spirit helps us know the things that are freely given to us.

The Holy Spirit helps us have joy. That’s why he is called Comforter, Helper, Counsellor, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener etc in John 14:16-18.

Pastor Kingsley reiterates the importance of allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us through all life’s decisions. He spoke about getting direction for everyday life by drawing from the indwelling Spirit of God in our belly. John 7:37-38, Prov 20:27 He shared several examples from his own life and walk with God where He had enjoyed direction from the Holy Spirit.

We must also understand that while there are consequences for sin God still wants us to come boldly to him not run away. When we are making mistakes is the best time to run to God more.

Mercy is a leveller, he established, both those who got things by merit and mercy will be at the same pace when mercy gets in. He encouraged Christians to tap into the mercy channel and enjoy God’s benefits he extends to those who come to him.

The session was drawn to a close with prophetic declarations over the lives of the congregation to look beyond their mistakes and enjoy God’s mercy to exploits in 2022.
