Day 6 Morning Apostle Joshua Selman – The Pattern for Growth and Stature

He started by recognising Apostle Lubega. He sang and established that it was not about singing, but atmospheres are required to draw on the manifestation of the power of God.

He commended the efforts of the Pastor in putting together a conference like this. He asserted that people should always come prepared for the conference spiritually. He established that God is a God of patterns,  and he captures these patterns as one would find in architecture to produce a structure.

The legitimacy of salvation comes from the patterns an individual follows. For everything, there’s a pattern, Church growth, deliverance etc. For each result, once we understand the spiritual pattern, it helps us. Therefore, we need to understand the patterns required for spiritual growth and maturity because certain levels of spiritual inheritance need maturity.

He read from Acts 6: 1-4 and pointed out the pattern for spiritual growth and maturity. In passing, he mentioned that results can be distractions just as sin can be a distraction, so we must examine the patterns.

Prayer and the ministry of the word were patterns the apostles focused on to spread the gospel and growth.

In Acts 18:25-26, he illustrated this with the story of the man who thought “great in stature” as a Christian and required prophetic midwives like Aquila and Priscilla. Apostle Selman said that there are three biblical pathways to knowing God.

  1. The scriptures
  2. The names of God
  3. Revelation of Jesus.
  4. Experiences

In Luke 2: 43-52, Jesus submitted himself to learning and doctrine enough to be in the temple to discuss the scriptures in the synagogue while his parents were looking for him. In Mark 1:23-35,  Jesus grew in the word and Authority (Dunamis and Exousia) and power through spending time comprehending the word.

Despite the depth of his communication and doctrine, Jesus prayed consistently. Matthew  4:3 helps us to understand the need for a prayer lifestyle and an in-depth word-centred Christian life.

Jesus prayed and fasted, and when the devil appeared, he could have still fallen if he did not have the word, and when the devil switched to the scriptures, it was the stamina from Jesus’s fasting and prayer that gave Christ victory.

Apostle Selman emphasised that the lopsided nature of the body of Christ must be fixed for the maturity of the saints.

He gave four assignments of prayer in the life of a believer.

  1. Transformation- A tool to help a  believer become all that he needs to be.
  2. Petitions- Mrk11:24-  It is to help with the ability to obtain requests.
  3. Warfare and intercession: Ability to stand against the wiles of the enemy.

Ezek 22:30 prayer is a potential instrument for intercession. You must love God and people to function in the office of intercession.

  1. For spiritual legislation. Like God is a Creator, we must also function as a speaking Spirit. Confession must be in union with the Holy Spirit, as this is what births creation.

He also gave the assignment of the word:

  1. To build the character of Christ in the believer.
  2. Renewal of your mind. Phil 2:23, Rom 12:2. This separates you from the thinking of this age.
  3. Wisdom and understanding- The principles of accessing the perspectives of God. 2Tim 3:15.
  4. It empowers us to work in authority. Our authority as believers comes as a result of the word. ‘

In wrapping up, he emphasised putting God’s Word above everything else. In his words, “It is written” that will always supersede “I saw” and “I heard,” as the latter can have several margins of error.
