DAY 5: MORNING SESSION 1 WITH PASTOR MATTHEW ASHIMOLOWO

DAY 5: MORNING SESSION 1 WITH PASTOR MATTHEW ASHIMOLOWO

After a powerful opening prayer and acknowledgement of the host, he began an exploration on the subject of prosperity, titled, It Is God’s Will For You To Prosper. Sharing a few of some of his sponsorships and welfare supports, he made a point head-on that it takes resources to truly help people. “Broke cannot help broke,” he said. The enemy of the gospel tries to keep us from having the resources because he knows that he who has the gold rules (the golden rule). Prov. 22:7

Reading a statistical data, he explained that the global income of the church is $161 Billion, 35% of which comes from the United States of America alone. Illicit drug industry is worth over $400 Billion and pornography industry is worth over $200 Billion. Based on those statistics, the church doesn’t have enough to confront drugs and pornography, even though we have the power.

Speaking briefly about tithing, he argued that since the church is in the order of Melchizedek, we tithe in the same way Melchizedek did. He believes the enemy is attacking the subject of tithing so as to stop the prosperity of the saints. He knows that we can’t give expression to our kingdom mandate without adequate resources.

Showing the congregation from the ministry of Jesus, he told to them that 23 out of the 37 parables of Jesus had to do with economics. He mentioned some examples including the parable of the sower which is really about investment of resource. The parable of talents which is about finance and a few others.

Referencing Jer 31:33, he spoke to the congregation about the covenant, expounding that a Christian’s relationship with God is a covenant. He made it clear from the scriptures that that covenant covers prosperity and financial abundance.

Of the many scriptures he quoted, one that particularly stood out was Deut 28:1 – 12. According to that scripture, God will bless the work of your hand, basket, storehouse. He spoke on the need to go from work of hand (salary level) to basket (SME), then to storehouse (a large enterprise employing hundreds and thousands of people).

He went further to say that you simply need to play your part of the covenant as God’s part is secured, as sure as day and night (Jer 31:21). In his words, “when you locate the covenant and enter into it, the struggle is over.”

He made it clear that the covenant is in present tense, and therefore shouldn’t be seen as something that’s no longer relevant for today. He also emphasized that the covenant of prosperity will prevail in any circumstance. Using Gen 12, 13, 26 amongst others, he showed that in the times of famine and financial crunch, our covenant fathers, Abraham, Isaac, Joseph and many others prospered.

In wrapping up, he gave a couple of instructions.

  1. You need to be a giver and a tither. Giving is one of the ways we activate our covenant of prosperity. All patriarchs were givers.
  2. Change your thinking. Prosperity begins with your thoughts.
  3. Double tithe; that is, tithe to church and tithe to yourself. Don’t just put your money in savings, put it in some form of investment.
  4. Practise delayed gratification. Ignore those that shame you saying your car doesn’t fit your status.

“You can make a difference. You can impact lives and above all, you can be prosperous” he charged.
