Everyone was excited to listen to tonight’s teaching by God’s servant – Dr Mensah Otabil, who spoke on a topic which concerns the African continent. Don’t forget this conference is West African Faith Believers Convention.
He titled the message “Do You Understand What You Are Reading?”, and the primary text is from the book of Acts Chapter 8 verse 26 – 35 – the story of a ‘nameless’ man from Ethiopia. This suggests he was an African.
He noted that Ethiopia means ‘dark faced people’. He told the congregation that this man was also a Eunuch. According to him, “Eunuchs are single generational people who couldn’t reproduce because they were castrated.”
He further explained that this man was also a man in a high position, submissive and one who had access to great resources. The only problem he had was that he lacked knowledge – he didn’t understand what he read. This position largely describes the life of an average African church.
The minister noted that it is possible to be a part of history without understanding its significance.
Dr Mensah taught from the book of Daniel 9:1-4 that Daniel prayed into reality the prophecy that he read and understood about the people of Israel. According to him, Daniel’s prayer shortened the year of captivity of Israel. This was only possible because of the importance of prayer.
Dr Mensah pointed out that as Daniel shortened their days of bondage because he understood, the Children of Israel added to their years of bondage because they lacked understanding.
He also used Luke 19-41-44 to explain that God frowns at His people lacking understanding.
“God works with us in seasons, and when we miss a season, we take a long cycle to get it back.”he added. “There are seasons in God. Look at the continent of Africa today, there was a season where the season was opened for people in Ministry and everyone who answered that time flowed with the current. Age is not important, it is season.”
Dr. Mensah Otabil believes there is a massive door opened (this season) for as many as will walk through the door and if we miss that door, God is going to wait for another season to open that door. The door will not be opened forever because God works in times and seasons.
He mentioned that, although, all over the world now, Nigeria has the highest number of world renowned Ministers of the gospel, yet the nation is still what it is. It is because apart from God raising Daniels, he still raised Zerubbabel. God is using the church to show the government how to run the system.
He admonished, “Don’t take for granted the perfect system of the church, all the church is doing is opening the door. The church is the doorway.”
He rounded off with prayers for this generation, releasing the spirit of wisdom. This is to raise up transformers in this generation, such as have never happened in the continent of Africa.
