Day 4: Session 5 – Pastor Inyang Okutiyang

TOPIC: David and Goliath – Defeating Your Giants!

Pastor Inyang  did a quick recap of the story he had shared during his first session at WAFBEC 2016. He once had a car with a CD player in his car that was designed like a stereo player, but didn’t know or believe that it could play CDs until a relative of his enlightened him about it and proved that the supposed stereo player ‘with audio CD quality’ could play CDs.

He admitted that his inability to believe that his then car-stereo player was as a result of the fact that he had not read the manufacturer’s manual.

God intends to introduce you to yourself through the Bible. When find out about yourself in the manufacturer’s manual, you would be shocked!

In Galatians 5: 17, we see some of the wonderful things of God deposited on the inside of you, clearly spelt out. When you read more, you’ll find out that there’s a winner on the inside.

1 Samuel 17: 4 – 10

From the description of Goliath, he wasn’t just big – according to Bible scholars, he was estimated to be between 9.6 inches to 11.2 inches – he was a giant; big on every side!

Goliath could represent a big problem in your life, sicknesses or diseases. He could also represent the challenges that promise you misery.

Have you had problems like that…ones that ‘talk’ to you, telling you the creditors are coming?

But in all of Goliath’s rants and threats, we see the men of Israel retelling Goliaths threat and challenge to anyone who was willing to hear. And this is the mistake we make: we take the enemy’s words and say it.

In fact, so many people are afraid of the ‘C’ word [Cancer]…but there’s a greater ‘C’ i.e. Christ. So, even if cancer says you’ll die, YOU should respond with words like, “By His (Christ) stripes, I am healed.”

Don’t get discouraged when you hear about faith. When you see a great work of faith, don’t be intimidated; if you start today, by tomorrow you can have or do such great works of faith – even with your little faith.

Now, while Goliath threatened, we see all the men present, having the same covenant with David (who just suddenly showed up to give his brothers lunch) – we see them responding wrongly. However, the difference between David and the other Israelites was that he had a revelation of the covenant.

What you don’t have a revelation on, you cannot act upon. This is why Paul prayed in Ephesians 1: 16 – 21, that we be granted the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God, for our eyes to be enlightened.

You need revelation knowledge to see. You need to see to say. You need to say to act. You need to act to have victory.

When revelation comes it comes by the Spirit of wisdom. So why don’t you stir your spirit all the time. David had a revelation about God. When Goliath threatened, David chose to face him, first with faith-filled words. He didn’t have to pray about it. And this is where some of us sophisticate our doubts and fears.

To contemplate praying about something you could otherwise speak over or to – facing it with faith and the wisdom of God, is to sophisticate your doubt and fear.

Speak the Word; defeat your Goliath!
