Day 3: Session 3 – Rev George Adegboye

Rev George Adegboye taught on the topic: What Does God Expect from Me?

Mark 4:35-41

God expects us to have great qualities that bring delight to the heart, qualities that produce enjoyment, excitement and that beautifies our lives. Our lives should be beautiful.

Isaiah 33:17, Psalms 27:4, Zechariah 9:14, Psalms 110:3. Remember, He gives beauty for ashes. Psalms 90:17, Psalms 149:4, Ephesians 5:26.

In the parable of the prodigal son, we note that God (the father) beautifies the child (Christians). However, the truth is that as beautiful as any life is, it is will go through storms (where storms can be defined as violent attacks on a fortified place). Storms usually disrupt the normal state of affairs. They can be sudden and unexpected, nevertheless, God expects you to overcome. The size of the storm is really not the problem but it is rather the lack of faith. 2 Corinthians 4:18.

There are ways to know whether or not we have faith. If you have faith, you will do the following;
1. Express it – take your eyes off the circumstances. If you look at it, you will be afraid. Fear and faith can’t stay together. Fear should give way for faith.

2. Hold firmly His promises and declare them.

Isaiah 55:11, Mark 4:35, Hebrews 4:12, Hosea 14:2, Jeremiah 1:12.

Abraham didn’t stagger at the promise of God and likewise we also shouldn’t. You must be ready when storms show up. Isaiah 9:8. There are scriptures that cover every area of your life. Focus on them and get filled. When nothing else works, the Word will.

3. Be careful about your attitude and utterance – Attitude seems small yet goes a long way.  Matthew 12:36. Death and life are in the power of your tongue. Our attitude is so important in order for us to get the right kind of help. Psalm 57:2, Proverbs 12:3, Job 1:21-22. At times, the intent of storms are to make you lose faith and sin, but purpose in your heart to keep your integrity. Weigh your attitude and ensure you abide in the Word. Let the calmness you derive from God reflect in all you do. Your attitude must proceed from a heart of revelation. John 14:1.2 Chronicles 16:9.

4. Remember God’s faithfulness. Psalm 105:1-5, Malachi 3:6, John 14:18. There’s a record of God’s faithfulness in everyone’s life and in those things around you. God forgives, heals, saves and redeems us from destruction. He crowns us with His loving kindness. Dearly beloved, forget not the benefits God gives you. That’s the confidence of our faith! Psalm 106:13,Deut 4:9, I Sam17:34-37. Constantly remind yourself of the things God has done for you, never forget them.
5. Do what Jesus Did – Speak to your situation! Rebuke the storm! Whatsoever thing you bind on earth is bound in heaven. 1 Peter 2:21.

Have faith in God brethren for the Just shall live by his faith!
